Link to:  "Adhesions and Fascia - The Real Source of Your Injury" by Sharon Butler

....another bit of info about fascia.

Here is an excerpt from her website:

"A New Perspective On RSI
On this website, we will look at repetitive strain injury in a whole new light - from the perspective of the fascia(connective tissues) of the body. Once you learn more about this critical and often overlooked tissue, you will understand that there are real solutions possible. There is hope for a real and complete recovery from your repetitive strain injury. When you have a repetitive strain injury, most people will be frustrated because their symptoms don't perfectly match the typical symptoms of the injury they have been diagnosed with. Believe me, that is very, very common. The reason why this happens is because it is the fascia that is actually the injured part in any RSI. And fascia is everywhere under your skin. How you were injured and what you were doing when you were injured, or what you have patterned into your connective tissue just by living your life will affect the fascia in your body in unique ways. And this can lead to confusing symptoms that are different from the textbook definitions of your injury."

A Still Relevant Article about Fascia from 2012.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has for not only centuries, but millenniums, used a Meridian System to explain workings of the human body.   It is not an accident that maps of these meridians lie directly over the lines of fascia researchers are mapping.

Below is a link to an article from 2012.....full of information about Fascia.  Over the past 5 years, so much has come to light about our fascia.  It is great that what has been overlooked for so long....is now being put together into usable wholes.

Almost every day there are Aha! Moments in the study of fascia.

It is exciting that in our lifetime there is a linking of the Eastern Traditional Chinese Medicine to Fascia Research in the West.

Compound that with the advances in technology allowing measurements and data collection to a degree which has never been possible before....so much is being documented and discovered.

This 2012 article is still relevant:

Qigong and Fascia

The link above goes to an article titled:  "The Modern Research of Meridians and Muscle Fascia"  ......
I often hear that there is very little research showing the benefits of massage therapy.  And yes, I will concur that it is a practicum that is more suited to qualitative research (versus quantitative).  It is what I would call a "new science"....although it is not new if you go East of Western Medicine.

Every day..... there is a growing amount of research, and favorable research.

And, if we get down to where the tire meets the road.....
.......if you have experienced personally that massage therapy has helped you..........

.......all the research in the world - no matter what those findings are..........

.........makes little difference to you.

It is a matter of:   "sometimes you know what you know."

Anyways.....

<><><>><  Here is an excerpt from the article noted above.......a short and worthy read.   The White Tiger Qigong Website has additional links to explore and other information. which may interest you.

 Enjoy....and have a great day.

Excerpt:
"Modern research has shown the link in both form and function between the workings of acupuncture and the fascial network in general. Prominent acupuncture and researcher, Dr. Helene Langevin have shown that connective tissue along with collagen fibers and fibroblasts wind around the end of an acupuncture needle when it is rotated in place creating detectable mechanical effects. Dr. Langevnin concluded that oriental acupuncture meridians may follow intramuscular or intramuscular fascial planes."

This is a very interesting article.

New research is causing many to look at fascia differently, or maybe for the first time....and adjust approaches to  exercise and fitness.

Kangaroos, People, and Fascia......

Kangaroos, People, and Fascia.....

These seem unrelated, BUT there are some thought-provoking insights in the zone where these three subjects meet....below is a excerpt and link you might find interesting and informative.

<><><>
Happy Spring!
Have a great day everyone.
Treat your Fascia nice everyday. :)
<><><><><>

"The Catapult mechanism, the body’s storage capacity and MMP.

‘The catapult mechanism’, a unique ability of Fascia, and was discovered by scientists in 1998. Kram and Dawson were investigating why Kangaroos can jump further than can be explained by the force of the contraction in their leg muscles alone.

They discovered that the tendons and fascia of the Kangaroo’s legs are tensioned, and it is the release of this stored energy that enables the Kangaroos to jump so high. Investigation of other ‘jumping’ animals such as gazelles showed that these other animals use the same mechanism.

With the use of high-resolution ultrasound technology (Sawicki et al, 2009) it has been possible to show that humans also use this mechanism, and that our fascia has the same elastic storage capacity as kangaroos and gazelles and that we use the catapult mechanism not just to jump but in our everyday locomotion and movements.

Just this discovery alone is quite remarkable. We have all watched on television the amazing jumping ability of high jumpers and long jumpers at events such as the Olympic Games, but for most of us to be able to train to jump so high and far is beyond our imagination, but is it beyond our capabilities?"

Fascia, Wrinkles, Aging, and our Bones - Positively Stressing Them.

3/6/2016

Here is an interesting blog about fascia, aging, and bones.  In particular it talks about eye sockets and the jaw.  It tells us that as we age our bones shrink and change shape.
Link
Now please bear with me as we look at something else....Wolf's Law.
Wolf's Law Definition
Excerpt from the above linked website:
"Definition:
Wolff’s Law states that bone grows and remodels in response to the forces that are placed upon it. After injury to bone, placing specific stress in specific directions to the bone can help it remodel and become normal healthy bone again.

How Does Wolff's Law Apply to Physical Therapy....
Wolff’s Law applies to physical therapy in the treatment of osteoporosis and after a fracture. If you have osteoporosis, your bones may be brittle and weak. This can lead to pathologic fracture, most commonly in the spine or hip. Weight-bearing and strengthexercises are usually recommended as a non-medicinal treatment for osteoporosis."
Now what if we have no injury....other than the aging process itself.....can we stretch and exercise our facial muscles and put stress on the bones - to attempt to accomplish a preventative, or at least a slowing, of this shrinkage?  I think so.

Why have an injury to inspire us to stimulate bone growth, regrowth, or even maintenance?

Try something, just as a personal experiment....tap your cheek bones and chin.  Not really hard, but firmly....kind of like you were doing EFT.  It makes mine tingle and feel alive.  What is happening?  My intent is not only at the skin and muscle level - but to and through the bones of my face.  Tapping on and through the spiderwebbing of my fascia - perhaps it will help the wrinkling and aging of my face, perhaps it will even help my whole fascial network.

I feel like it does something positive.  What do you think?

Have a wonderful day. :)
